The overall objects of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees (APPT) can be summarised as follows:
- Establishing and maintaining (in consultation with other relevant parties) a set of standards for professional trustees of occupational schemes to improve and promote the quality of professional pension trustees.
- Establishing and overseeing an accreditation process to demonstrate continuing compliance with the standards, by which members may become accredited professional pension trustees
- Promoting the role of professional pension trustees within the pensions industry generally, and in particular with regulatory bodies and with sponsoring employers of occupational pension schemes
- Acting as the collective voice of professional trustees as well as a channel for member feedback, both in response to formal industry consultations and in discussions with regulatory bodies such as the Pension Regulator, DWP and PPF.
- Providing opportunities for member training, feedback, and discussion forum through a series of seminars and other events.
